The facility, which has a 175 bed capacity operates as a General Hospital, specialising in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Basically, it provides services ranging from curative, preventive, rehabilitative and promotive. Averagely, it caters for a population of over 100,000, admits over 11,000 patients and sees about 65,000 cases in its Out Patients Department [OPD]. Over 3000 surgeries are undertaken annually. Due to its specialty area, several expectant mothers use the facility during pregnacy and also to deliver of their babies; about 1,900 deliveries each year.

With a staff strength of 200, St. Martin de Porres Hospital, Eikwe, is the largest health provider in the Nzema East and West [Jomoro] Districts. The two districts have a total population of 375,850. The Hospital has a well stocked Dispensary and functioning X Ray and Ultra Scan Units, as well as a Laboratory that undertakes various kinds of investigations [Haematology, Bacterioly, Parasitology, Blood Banking and Biochemistry].

For over a decade now, the Hospital has as part of its Primary Health Care [PHC] programme vigourously embarked on a Home Based Care activities, catering for clients/patients with medico social needs . These include Tuberculosis [TB] patients and HIV/AIDS clients. In the last years, additional services such as Voluntary Counselling & Testing [VCT], Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission [PMTCT], and Anteretroviral Therapy [ART] have also been introduced.
